Unique Investment Opportunities

invest with orion international

A unique investment opportunity is something you would not normally have access to. Many apparently unavailable investments are usually taken up by the chosen few, for example banks, pension funds, high net worth individuals that are in the "know" etc.

Our primary aim is to identify investment opportunities, check them out and carry out as much due diligence as required. If we are then confident to invest we would expect our clients to be confident to invest.

So, what do we look for in an investment opportunity?

Uniqueness – something not normally available to the average investor

Most unique and successful ideas are commercialized by companies being formed and investors brought in at a very early stage. Many times these companies are sold on and the average investor never gets to know about them. Others will go to IPO or flotation after the big money has been made.

Quality – Who are behind the company? Where did the idea originate?

If the idea, technology etc originates from a place of pedigree and has been proven it increases the confidence level. There are many quality idea’s just waiting to be funded.

There are a number of places that good ideas originate; universities, military research laboratories, government sponsored facilities etc.

Protection - So, how should the unique and successful ideas be protected from theft?

There are laws in place to protect exactly that. Patent, intellectual property and copyright laws are very harsh and quite rightly so. Protected ideas, inventions etc when commercialised, add tremendous value to a company.

Timing – A balance of risk and return

The earlier the stage of development, the greater the potential return, however, the greater the risk.

The technology should be proven with development costs already paid for and the product close to commercial sales and contracts.

There are many past examples of technology that were developed for entirely different reasons than
the commercial opportunity. For example, Teflon, the non stick coating on cookware developed from space research scientists, the microwave oven, a spin-off from radar development and many others.
